X-file

Ben

Greetings.

Anyone here using X-file?

I bought a copy of it way back when.

The problem now, is that it no longer accepts the registration code between reboots.

I have to re-enter the information every time.

The registration information is stored within X-files own INI file. I've even tried restoring the INI from the old good one after reboot, but prior to restarting the program. It always accepts the code, but never from a previous boot, it simply wipes out the previous registration code and claims the program is unregistered.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going on here and why? It might have something to do with year 200*.

A solution would be nice too.

Thank-you.

Hi Ben,

Same here. I have one machine (this one) that uses xFile fine, and never re-prompts me for the reg code, while I have one that does every time (and is getting rather annoying).

I suspect an INI issue - as I know that machine definitely has quite a few. You may wish to try removing all references to xFile from OS/2's INI, deleting the xFile INI files, and then starting again. I've been too lazy to do so myself.

Thanks for the reply, RobertM.

This problem appears on and of now for quite some time.

I've done the INI cleaning, deleting, removal, replacement et al.

I'll be damned if I can find anything that has any positive affect on it.

I've even given it a dire warning...  :-\

Ah well.

Hi Ben,

Well, you saved me from the INI cleaning nightmare at least... so in return, I will try to figure out what is different about both of my xFile installs... maybe that will shed some light on our mutual problem.

Will let you know what I find. If you dont see a post from me by Sunday, drop a note here reminding me (been a busy week so far, kinda expecting the weekend to turn out the same, in which case I may forget).

OH! As a related note, when it spawns the Help Browser, I simply minimize it... that at least reduces the number of clicks I need to proceed (I then just simply have to clear xFile's nag screen, and no longer have to wait for the Help Viewer to load... xFile doesn't even re-maximize it).

Thanks,
Robert
