Is anyone using Rsync for backups ???

I want to write an article about the different ways to use Rsync on os2/eCs.

Here is a start, any help would be appreciated.

Would you please post any Rexx scripts that you use and methods for Rsync.

Hi Greggory

Yes - but I do not use the command line or rexx scripts as luckybackup seems to be a good gui for rsync.

To use luckybackup you need the qt4 runtime from http://svn.netlabs.org/qt4 and luckybackup from http://svn.netlabs.org/qtapps/wiki/QT4%20Application

You also need rsync installed, to quote the readme, "in path or same dir as Luckybackup.exe".

I definitely plan on adding LuckyBackup to the article (I looked over it quickly).  But, can it make backups to a server, so I don't have to worry about the command line stuff ???

Hi,

There will be soon a newer LB for Os2, that i hope fix the errors like the / and the \

Look @ http://luckybackup.sourceforge.net/manual.html

Hi Greggory

I have not tried backing up to another system, all my backups have been to locally attached drives.

A quick look through the Help indicates that to back up to another system a destination on that system would have to be mounted locally so that it has a local drive letter.

Here is a Rexx script similar to the one I use to backup data on a linux server.

Thank you, hope you don't mind if I post some of this on my website.

Hi all,

yes, I'm using rsync in my LAN. At the moment, there's one client machine running eCS 2.1 and one rsync server machine running eCS 2.0 rc5. I intend to add a fedora client later.
There are several WPS rsync objects for dedicated tasks which I start manually whenever needed to invoke a backup of the files associated with the task.
