2 Apps Needed by eCS

There are 2 major apps that need to be developed for eCS:
   1. A solid business accounting system similar to Quickbooks
   2. A stand alone mapping system kind of like Streets & Trips or PCMiler.
I know Robert M is working on #2.

There are a few open source financial applications similiar to quickbooks that could be ported by a programmer:
http://gnucash.org/
http://www.turbocashuk.com/index.html (I think it can import some versions of QB files)
http://www.sql-ledger.org/

If it's important for you then maybe you should consider sponsoring a bounty to port one of those, to help make it happen.

I would love to sponsor a bounty for an eCS financial app, but right now, I can barely afford to buy gas....

Hi all,

coming from commercial application development, I have to admit that I already did code similar things a decade ago. Basically, the business cases behind it I'm familiar with. I even did a data clearing interface used by the companys accounting software to process bank data interchange files. But: This is all GERMAN.
I mean - german laws, taxes and bank stuff... I have no idea how the things are called in English, what accounting principles apply and what the workflows look like. Perhaps you guys could send me a draft of what such application does, and I could match that with what I know... then we could talk about wireframe-style prototypes and think if the approach makes sense. Hmmm... sounds promising to have "universal accounting software".
Are we talking about re-inventing SAP? :-))

Thomas

Yeah I understand on the money situation, i've been there :).
I guess quickbooks pro v5 works with os2 running in winos2 (since it supports windows 3.1)
I have no idea though if it's too old to be useful, but there does seem to be some copies floating around on amazon and ebay, so if it is useful you might be able to find a cheap copy sometime.

Unfortunately, I'm using Quickbooks 2007 and NONE of the Quickbooks "upgrades" are backwards compatible. The 2 biggest problems with porting Quickbooks to eCS is it's a 32-bit app, and its extensive use of the internet.

I want to develop in WDSibyl,  I have built very small prototype apps and I really like what I see.  I have been in hopes to build my first verticle market apps to assist with businesses with delivery routes.  After I completing a magor portion of that project I was hoping to use WDSibyl to build from a proven Delphi accounting app base.

If the two above were successful, I was hoping to build a formal group of consultants / resellers to sell and support the solutions across the US and Canada.  Everything within the core accounting modules is completely customizable for what ever market we wanted to target as a group.

But I need to take steps, small steps...
