Chat client that supports MSN

I'm glad you are able to provide the financial support to ensure that the bounties you'd like to see happen can happen. I am not in a place in my life where I can do that. I scrape together money by selling my texts and other personal belongings and by buying/repairing media players on ebay. Getting an eCS license and subscription took a lot of money out of me, as did my hardware upgrades this year. If I ever magically get more money than I know what to do with, I'll be sure to pour some cash into some bounties here. Especially libMTP, OS/2 codecs, IOPROCS. I'm working with Marty Amodeo currently to help make sure MrMessage makes progress into a fully-features AIM/ICQ client with all the features the OSCAR protocol supports. This is very important for eCS I believe.

Saborion2 I think it was written before, but I want to do it again. Please can you be so kind and put text from others that you quote inside the provided quote markes (
Quotetext
). It may help a lot when reading your comments.

saborion2

Huh!
QuoteIt may help a lot when reading your comments.
Always thought that this ("...") was the same. 8)

Saijin_Naib

Noo, its not unfortunately. The Quote PHP code makes the text in question stand out by drawing the blue box around it, its much simpler ;)

warpcafe

Hi all,

I don't know... perhaps with some browsers or with different methods of accessing this forum, the quote and other codes may be out of reach... so as a heads-up, when you want something to appear as quote, either mark it and click the "bubble" icon (having tooltip "insert quote") or simply type in your text

This is a part of your new text and
this is the quoted text
while this again is new text

BTW, in the forum you can also click the "quote" link on top/right of each post instead using the "reply" link.
This will wrap the entire message accordingly into a pair of "quote" tags for you and put that into the message editor. Then, you just need to strip the parts you don't want to include in the quote. Your own text can go in front and/or after these quote marks.

Re: "Chat client that supports MSN"

With all that the MSN folks "have not done" for OS/2 over the last two decades or so; why should the OS/2 Communities around the world even have a focus on a "Chat client that supports MSN".  :-X

Because its a fairly prolific protocol and theres nothing wrong with it?

-_- Just because you have a personal vendetta against Microsoft doesnt mean that everyone who uses OS/2 should be punished by losing functionality they may need and require. Honestly... keep pidgeon-holing OS/2 into obscurity. You're doing a wonderful job of trying to ensure its obsolescence by fighting everything "MS" related, instead of learning how to accept, adapt, integrate, evolve. You will damn this OS with an isolationist attitude like that.

You always make vague, hard to interpret posts with bold things like "play with the other kids" or other such nonsense, so why not start taking your own creedo into consideration? This would be "playing with the other kids". If you want people to switch to your platform, you make it as painless as possible. You dont force them to give up what they are used to and need.

Every missing feature is exactly that, a missing feature. Aka, a strike against adopting that platform.

You might want to check out SIM too... http://www.eros2.info/download/sim-im-os2-0.9.4.3-r2.zip
It doesn't work on my PC!

Hey WarpWorld, what happens? I know for me, I cant use the AIM protocol properly from within SIM. I can't send messages, but I can recieve them. MSN works fine under SIM (if I recall properly).

This is why I stand behind Marty Amodeo and MrMessage, and am trying to assist Marty as much as I can in helping MrMessage to become a fully-featured OSCAR client for OS/2 of epic proportions.

How soon we forget some of the things we forget in school; or, some cool things said by "talented' and "experienced" individuals like ("warpcafe", Global Moderator) one can take a cue from to remember some of the things "our grandmothers told us to do"; and, not to do.

To any average OS/2 user who have waited years and years for the opportunity to "play with the other (Windows and Linux) kids in the Hardware Playing Fields" you are making this sound like double jeopardy for them.  8) If not; then, why can't they gather up their playing gear and head for home when the "lights" come on ("as grandma told them to do") which will allow the more privileged Windows and Linux children to continue playing all night long (what have they to lose anyway since they were having most of the fun all along?) . There is a saying that goes like this: "Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealth and wise".  ;D

Why should reverse discrimination, the need for not to be "confused"; and, "to possess different sporting skills/techniques"; and, "the abilities to do the same things differently" to the Windows and Linux kids that are also playing in the parks around the world (MSN)... be described as having "a personal vendetta against Microsoft"  ???; or, or is it that a degree of threat to the present control/influence (after all of these years) on all the other children on the play grounds is being perceived; or, is it more or less like a veil disguise/introduction of your subliminal messaging strategy for (as a result of) standing up to the playground "overgrown" kid (MSN)? 8) ::) 8)

Well, It should work perfectly fine. I've never had to do anything other than unzip it to get it working before. Can you please describe more clearly what happens so that I may help you better?

Sab, your posts are always very confusing. I'd like to converse with you (yes, I know I like to argue with you, but it's in good sport :) ) and actually be able to understand, so please speak straight.

My point about MSN is thus: It's one of the most widely used Instant Messaging Protocols/Services worldwide, and as such, lots of people may use it under Linux, OSX, Windows, BeOS, whatever. And if they want to use eComStation, and they then find out that they can't communicate with anyone because eComStation doesn't have a MSN capable client, then they will surely be soured a bit because now they have met a stumbling block to adopting eComStation. This will be because they are losing something they need/want/like, and the whole point of improving eComStation is to make it attractive to the widest user-base possible. To do this, we need to make sure that eComStation can perform for everyone. I know when I found out that there was no real AIM client for OS/2 I was pissed! I nearly emailed Mensys back and said "I want my money back, I can't talk to my friends under this OS?! What use is it to me!?". Then I found MrMessage, and I was (mostly) okay, but still. Thats the whole point Sab. We need these things to stay relevant. You may not see it as such, but if you really dont want OS/2 to progress, then stick with W4 4.52 and disconnect from the internet buddy, that way you don't need to see any of this.

Yet "Saijin_Naib" you went on at length with:

You know ""Saijin_Naib"; you reminded me of the time when I was attending a college course and for the first time the word "concatenation" was introduced in my micro-computing class and I did not understand what that word meant; but, after some figuring out and discussion/discourse with fellow class mates I finally figured out what that word was really about; and, it is quite certain when you do the same everything will just snap in place as you "ponder" just that little bit more about what is really being said by me in my posts. For example;
Quote
"to possess different sporting skills/techniques", wear/put on different sporting gear/wear; and, "the abilities to do the same things differently" to the Windows and Linux kids that are also playing in the parks around the world (MSN)...

What took you so long to find/recommend "MrMessage" for OS/2-eComStation as a "Chat Client"?  ;D
