klipp,

What sound card driver are you using?

Hi Robert! As my previous post states, On this test setup I'm using a SBLive sound card. I've also tried Using SB16 & Unaid.  At this point I really don't believe its a Soundcard problem, the error message remains the same (as described in one of the previous posts on this topic) reguardless of the soundcard being used. I now believe this has to be somethnig  related to eCs! (possibly LVM ??) -- I wish I knew!

thanks for you're interest

Hi klipp,

LVM isn't an issue. All my machines use LVM. You may wish to try Sander's SBLive081 driver (on Hobbes, if memory serves) and see if the results are the same. I have had odd problems with UniAudio and some apps (such as Ceres) - though BlueWarper seems to have gotten it working with UniAudio (wonder if something changed in the UniAudio driver since?).

The other problems I have seen arise are issues in the MMOS2.ini files - which I have found the easiest way to rectify them is to uninstall any and all sound cards MMOS2 thinks are installed, uninstall and reinstall MMOS2 and then sound card/driver support. That might work as VT will fail if when trying to determine what device it should be talking to, it reads the wrong information from the MM subsystem. And I have found that when playing with changing sound cards and/or drivers, the ini files get a bit messed up because of erroneous data left in them from uninstalling/reinstalling cards or drivers (though some things still work). Often it is as simple as a new, higher card ID is assigned to the newest card/driver instance installed (in which case, see the last paragraph below).

The only other thing I have seen cause it is if the sound card is already locked by something else running (audio player, some add-on, some extension to the WPS that locks it, etc). I have successfully tested it with NPSWPS, and Styler/2 and xWP without issue - but did have some other programs on autostart that would lock the sound card and create a similar issue with VT initialization.

You may also want to go into the VT settings (not sure where or how - my VT machine is at the house) and see what sound card index it is set to use - and play with that value... trying 0 or 1 or 2 sometimes works.

It's a pity to have a so good native application not easy and always working in ecs!!!
Any news about?
Isn't it worth while creating a bounty thread?
bye

Andi

My son played a while ago with Voice Type and eCS1.1 or 1.2r on his Thinkpad. He managed to get it installed and it worked. I remember we messed around with the installation but can not remember what we have done. I've searched my prefered german os2 sites for infos about that, but didn't find it. I'm not even sure if he had a crystal chip in that thinkpad (was a R50e I think, which he does not have anymore), or if he used uniaud.

Sorry, this is no great help for this thread except the info, that it is doable with eCS (if my and my sons memory is not completly wrong, and yes, I've asked him about that too). I've not googled about this topic since this time. But somewhere out in the web, there should be the needed information.

obiwan

Hi guys,

Can we confirm that the problems with VoiceType are only with Uniaud, and the problems do not occur with other drivers? I only skimmed this thread, but I did not see any post stating otherwise.

If it is a problem with Uniaud, it actually makes sense to me that this would be the case.

Those with SB Live, please try with the latest sbliveos2 driver you can find. If it works with that, it will be easier to get it working in Uniaud.

I'm not making any promises, and I probably won't get to it soon, but you got my attention.

Anyone interested in working on fixing it is invited to join the uniaud-dev list (see http://svn.netlabs.org/uniaud) to discuss it.

Thanks.

good ideas!!!

Thanks to everybody working around

onlineuser2,

Please don't just wait. Please try the sbliveos2 driver.

I'm glad to see more interest in getting Voice Type to work in eCs. --- obiwan, I have installed Voice Type on another machine with SBLive sound card and get the same results. I really don't believe now that its a problem with the sound card. The next thing I'm going to try is installing eCs 1.2r on this same machine with the SBLive card, in the boot drive C: and see if it will work, I don't believe it will!  Hope I'm wrong!
Like I've posted earlier, it installs fine, lets you set up a user, but then when the "check installation" is selected, it craps out with the message "Establishing a session with Speech Recignizer failed (rc=30). [chk2014]"
This is the message that I get on four different machines all using different sound cards & drivers.
It would help if there was any useful information available for describing the different error conditions that can occur. The "Help Files" in Voice Type are pathetic at best.

Thanks for the interest in trying to solve this problem and I'll get back with any new information I can uncover.

Hi all,

at first I was reluctant to enter this thread but now I think I can just let you know... just to clarify although I cannot provide in-depth details:

I remember that when eCS 1.2 GA was out, I had installed VoiceType from off the 1.0 CDs (iirc) plus the bugfixes and it worked flawlessly. All was installed to C:, the boot drive.
At that time, I was using a pci sound card with an "Aureal" (IIRC 8820, "Vortex-1") chipset that was NOT using uniaud drivers.
Please do not ask for details... it's been a long time ago and currently I'm lacking both time and equipment to give it another try - this was just to assure you that -YES- eCS and VT should work.

The only thing I have noticed is that if VoiceType is not installed on Drive C, it doesnt work. Even though everything seems to install properly. VoiceType isnt that big, so space requirements shouldnt be an issue (thus placing it elsewhere will not be that beneficial). I am not sure if earlier versions (ie: the one that came with Warp 4) would work if installed elsewhere - though it is possible - in which case, installing it onto something newer than Warp 4 onto something NOT Drive C appears to cause issues that were not present in the initial VT installer that came with Warp 4. That could simply be becuase the installation routines are somewhat different (one got installed via the OS/component installer, the other by the object installer after the fact).

Let us know if it works once installed on Drive C... and if anyone manages to get it working on another drive, please let us know. After many trials and errors (including re-installing MM and sound card support numerous times), someone else pointed out to me that I could keep trying as long as I wanted but VT would not run from anywhere BUT Drive C using the "after the fact" installation method.

I have never tried the program.  Based on what Thomas stated, I pulled out my old eCS 1.0 CD's and found VoiceType.  It installed without a problem.  I had to reboot to get the WPS objects to appear.  I installed it to drive F.  As near as I can tell, it works fine.  I get no errors messages.  Right now I don't have a mike to to start the training.

This is with the latest Uniaud driver on ecs 2.0 rc4.

I checked eCS 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2 CDs for VoiceType.  Only the eCS 1.0 CD had VoiceType. I did not check the eCS 1.0 Preview disks I have.

Hey David!! Thanks for you're reply! At least now we know two things. It will work with eCs 2.0 and it doesn't have to be installed on Boot Drive "C" anymore. I only have the version that was on the 1.2 CD#2 -- possibly thats the problem! WoW! I just dug up my old Warp 4 CD and the readme file verify's that VoiceType can be installed on drives other than "C".  I guess the next thing to try is installing the Warp 4 version of VoiceType in eCs-rc4 , problem is, I've forgotten how to install it from the Warp 4 CD.

Saijin_Naib

What would cause the version of VT from eCS 1.2MR CD2 to fail installing properly? That is the only version I have access to :C

klipp

Well, I installed the version of VoiceType that came on the Warp 4 CD and it works GREAT!!  Looks like the version that came on the eCs 1.2 CD#2 is probably screwed up.
This is running on eCs 2.0-rc4 with a SBLive sound card.

Thanks for all the input from everyone    klipp
