Hi, everyone.

I remember reading somewhere about how to get Seamonkey to use Innotek's font system.  I've installed all of what I need from Innotek, but I can't remember how to get Seamonkey to use it.  I believe it is in the registry...anyone know what I'm talking about?

Thanks,
Sean

Ya, you need to open the registry editor. I just use run from the eCenter/xCenter and type regedit2. From there, I add seamonkey.exe to the HKEY_LOCALMACHINE Innotek\Fontlib\(Dont recall, you will see firefox.exe and another entry though) then reboot :)
Sorry not more descriptive, in windows right now and I cant reboot till something is done compressing.

You need to create a new key in the Applications folder.  You do this by right clicking on the applications folder and selecting NEW and then KEY.  Type in Seamonkey.  Click on the new  Seamonkey key.  Then move to the right hand part of the registry.  Right click on a blank area of screen and select NEW and then DWORD.  For the DWORD, type in Enabled and then enter. Now right click on Enabled and select MODIFY.  Change the 00 to 01 and enter. close registry and then start Seamonkey.

Thanks to both of you-I can actually read the fonts now. :)

I'm wondering-do you think this would work with Lotus Word Pro (Smartsuite) or does the application have to be specifically designed for use with the Innotek fonts?

Thanks,
Sean

I was under the impression that it will work with any application so long as you do the key thing. Some may require reboots (WPS comes to mind), and some apps may crash or exhibit other odd behaviors that may or may not be troublesome to you. So be careful if you do decide to add other apps this way.

sdennis

Okay, thanks for the warning.  I'll try it out and let you know how it goes.  If so, that will resolve my one major beef with SmartSuite.

Mhh... I have to admit, I didn't even know it can be used with *any* application. That's because I think, I read somewhere somewhen that only Mozilla applications and OpenOffice (and apps which use the slightly different API) are supported.
However, right - it works with almost any OS/2 application. It even works with the WPS (pmshell.exe) which makes my Desktop look a lot better now. :-)

Hmmm... can you all clarify the stuff in this thread for me (and perhaps others)?

Are you saying you have gotten Innotek's FontLib to work with the WPS?

Thanks,
Robert

Hey - you want to say you do NOT know about it? I'm running fully dithered desktop for a loooong time now!  ;D (and A LOT of ditherred apps as well). When I'm @home I will try to post screenshots of my desktop and apps...

Yeah... I definitely did NOT know that - last I heard, there was some issues with getting it to work with the WPS... and some early posts saying it would NOT work... I never bothered reading the ReadMe's or such on the newer versions, so if any change was mentioned in there, I missed it.

The only problem that concerns me (and maybe you can put that concern to rest) is that FireFox occassionally crashes (which may be related to the FontLib stuff - because after the crash, it no longer dithers fonts)... and I am wondering how that would affect the WPS or other apps using it - or if it is specific to the instance(s) of Firefox with no affect on anything else using it...

Thanks again,
Robert

Well - yes, for the last couple of months the Firefox seems to be more and more unstable. I thought that it may be problem of Firefox directly (new builds are less stable then the old ones), but there are some indications that the problem lies somewhere in between the FF and Innotek FontEngine (IFE) (more like an IFE problem). There were also some minor issues on NewView with IFE - NewView seems to "hang" for several seconds, but after a while it continues on working fine.

Yes, I saw the problems of IFE to "break" itself when used especially in FF, then IFE was disabled and no font rendering took place until reboot :)

Sometimes i.e. in PMView the menu texts get misaligned and/or mis-painted, but after re-click or other repaint action it gets ok.

So yes, there are some minor issues but only FF keeps having some real trouble from time to time.

Regarding WPS dithering, I found >NO< problems whatsoever. I'm using the Workplace Sans TTF font (replacement for non-TTF WarpSans) and I tend to set this font as "system default". Then, this dithered font is used everywhere (even in OOo/2) and the system looks beeeaaauuttiiiifuuul :D

I haven't had a chance to try out the other programs yet as I'm waiting to fix my other OS/2 machine (my personal one).  SeaMonkey has actually seemingly sped up a bit with the fonts.  I am suffering the odd-sized font program as it was described elsewhere (where the large fonts get too large while the small fonts stay the same), but that's just a minor annoyance.  I should have that other machine up and running Friday or Saturday and I'll try a few other applications then, such as SmartSuite which has a really bad problem with fonts, IMNSHO.

I haven't tried FF with this yet as I prefer SeaMonkey with everything "all built in".  But I've heard from other friends using FF on other platforms that they've had problems with FF's stability, so I guess we're not alone.

And to Mr. Moderator-thanks for clarifying the topic...I guess topics have a way of sprawling over time. ;)

I've used Innotek's FontLib on the desktop on and off for years. Always, without exception, it brings with it instability. It's pretty, no doubt, but after a while, when I can no longer tolerate it, I must take it off.

If you want to try it for yourself it's simply done by adding PmShell.exe in the usual location using RedEdit.

There have been reports by some of total success, but Innotek themselves, always said to steer clear of doing such a thing.

Good luck with it.

I've also tried it some times and primarily got disturbed over strange thick fonts in properties notebook.

I also found this a problem and, as well, some fonts sat so high that the tops of them were cut off them. This was particularly true of the disk widget in eCenter.

It seems to me that there weren't too many problems, but the ones that were, or are, there are sufficient for me to discontinue use, (and for anyone else, I imagine, who also had, or has,  these problems).

One would like to think that some small adjustments would fix them, but that's non-programmer speak. :-\
