Publishing software maker Adobe Systems Inc Thursday said it won $2.8 million in a patent infringement suit against Macromedia Inc.

The company said the dispute was over its "reconfigurable tabbed palette patent," which covers the way its software displays multiple sets of information in the same area of the computer screen.

The verdict was awarded in U.S. District Court in Delaware.

Adobe was not immediately available for comment but said in a statement that it was pleased with the verdict, although it would have preferred to settle it out of court,

Macromedia, which also makes design software, said in a statement that it believed the verdict was wrong.
