Months after its official debut, Nvidia's nForce2 chipset for Advanced Micro Devices's (AMD) K7 platform is reportedly able to finally promise volume shipments, which had been hampered by its failure to pass DDR400 and AGP 8x standard tests in early October.
According to sources, Nvidia recently informed clients that related technology problems have been solved and it will begin volume shipments early next month. First-tier motherboard makers such as Asustek Computer and Micro-Star International (MSI) said they expect to receive the chipsets on October 1 at the earliest.
Despite notification of chipset delivery, most board manufacturers are tending toward a more conservative attitude about their product launch timetable until they officially receive the chipsets and complete related specification tests.
Supporting the DDR400, AGP 8x, USB 2.0, IEEE 1394 and ATA-133 standards, the nForce2 has been promoted as a competitive, highly-integrated chipset solution. However, affected by the unsatisfactory standards test results, supporting motherboards have not been seen on the market much since the chipset roll-out.
