In the wake of IBM's (NYSE: IBM) launch of its first stand-alone Linux server , research firm Aberdeen Group has released a study that raises questions about IBM's Linux strategy -- but IBM vehemently rebuffed the report's conclusions.
The study's author, Bill Claybrook, noted, "IBM is the only company that is seriously trying to expand its Linux business beyond Intel (Nasdaq: INTC) and Intel-compatible machines." He questioned whether this is a good strategy for the company, its customers or independent software vendors (ISVs), because it is unclear whether there is a sustainable Linux business in the non-Intel arena....
