Intel briefly demonstrated at IDF the Monahans processor, which will succeed the current XScale processor with Bulverde core. The new high-end chip for cellphones is scheduled to be announced sometime in 2006 with clock speeds that, according to senior vice president Sean Maloney, have not been determined, but could come in at around 1 GHz. A pre-production version of Monahans was shown by Maloney running at 1.248 GHz - enough to comfortably play a MPEG 2 video with a 640x480 pixel resolution. ...
