The article in general looks good. And of course that open standards helps the Banking industry. But there is something that I don't really like about it. He states the following:
"The old world of proprietary systems came to a halt when IBM announced that it would stop supporting the OS/2 operating system...."
'Sarcastic Moment
Hurray!!! the world is now open. Now everybody uses open standards since IBM stop supporting OS/2!!
'/Sarcastic Moment
Came on!!! get real with this. I can't belive people still write about this and complains about OS/2.
Jorge Fernandez forgot that now on Windows ATMs you need to buy antivirus, fight spyware, fight virus, security holes, more hackers and spend more resources on Windows patching from time to time.
And the most important thing "Microsoft Windows" is NOT an Open Standard.
I complete understand that OS/2 (and eCS) on ATMs is not in a good momentum, but the Windows reality should not be hidden.
On the other hand, it will be good to see a Serenity Systems strategy to recover the ATM market with eComStation. Trying to focus harder on XFS (if it is possible to run it fine under eCS) and maintaining the good NDC (NCR) and DDC (Diebold) emulations for the ATMs.
