The Brother range of Network enabled Multi Function devices allow documents to be scanned to a storage card (eg Compact Flash), which can then be read via FTP.
The unit has a network interface (CAT5/RJ45) and can be assigned an IP address manually or via DHCP. The printer is then available as a network printer (Warp Server is mentioned in the manual as being compatible), and a compact storage card (CF, Somy Memory stick, Sd but not MicroDrive) is inserted, it becomes available via FTP on the same IP address.
When the card is plugged in, any digital photos can be printed directly, and the entire card is available to be read over the network. Selecting "Scan" offers the choice of storing on the card, and a PDF file is generated which can then be read via the usual readers (Adobe Reader 3, the Innotek versions or GhostView). Manipulation then happens as with any other PDF file.
An MFC-3820CN has been tested and found very very useful for scanning. The Network printing, or whether the Fax facility can be utilised over a network from OS/2 has not been tested yet.

For those interested, there is currently a thread running on the ecs-technical yahoogroups list related to MFC in cluding the Brother (in our case MFC620CN however the network side is the same across the models apparently). (Subject is "3in1 Printers and eCS?")
