The Danish public service sector would save as much as 600 MUSD if they stoped using Microsoft products per year. This is what was presented in a Danish report last week regarding Microsoft domination within the Danish market.

The investigation was made by the the Danish TeknologirÕdet that was founded by the Danish government to advice the parliament in IT related matters. This is just not another report; it's an recommendation how the Danish public service could save lots of money if they transferred and started to use more OpenSource related applications as well OS.

This report and investigation is troublesome for Microsoft and this was also the same comment made by Simon Brown, CEO for Microsoft Sweden.

Also in Norway a report with the same content was presented this summer with recommendation regarding using more OpenSource and less Microsoft products. Also Statskontoret in Sweden is currently doing an investigation regarding the usage of OpenSource. But, since Statskontoret renewed the two years contract with Microsoft one can easy figure out that they hardly share their Danish and Norwegian colleagues conclusions.

For more reading there is an Swedish article at Sydsvenskan and as well at the Danish Computerworld. Neither of the articles are in english, only Swedish and Danish.
