Behold everyone, a XMAS gift... Its finaly here! The all new generic WIN/OS2 driver. Tested as good as possible! If your soundcard works in native OS/2 you can have the same support in WIN/OS2! This driver supports wave playback/record and MIDI playback.
We have had a bit of comment from people asking why we are putting effort in getting WIN/OS2 support. Well from the response we are getting its clear there is demand for this driver. Next thing to do is add SB emulation! With this last option added all the
VDM session (soundcard related) will be over once and for all.
A note at this moment the site is knowwhere, just a skeleton with death links but a new website with all supported PCI and AC 97 sound devices is being worked on! Can also be found on home.wanadoo.nl/~rwklein
There you can also find a link for a mailing list where you can subscribe to.
Hope to finish this part of the site in february when I finish school!
Why has this taken so long to update the driver !!?!? Well the complete infrastructure has changest in the driver!
The previous version that has now been wiped of the homepage did the following.
With the help of a VDD, data was transfered to the soundcard via DART in native OS/2.
This method was to slow and had to much limitations.
The new driver you can now download:
A) Works faster because the audio data from WIN/OS2 is delivered straight to the driver of your soundcard. (Don't worry it won't break MMPM/2 support!)
B) MIDI playback first did not function properly in WIN/OS2! Why ? In some cases TIMER0.SYS
blocked because it was used by the audio driver. To fix this John has written a new TIMER0.SYS. You can also download this from the link found below.
C) And most importanted, read the manual!!!! The next version will have a graphic installer!
Please mind the following points!
If you get NO sound, check the amount of expanded memory you have set
for the WIN/OS2 session.
It needs to be put to zero! John has been looking into this but its
something funny to do with the kernel.
Oops almost forgot, you can download the all new generic WIN/OS2 driver
and TIMER0.SYS
from home.wanadoo.nl/~rwklein
Does that link fail, try home.wanadoo.nl/~rwklein/index.htm
The following things are on the wishlist to add:
A) Soundblaster Pro or 16 emulation for DOS sessions
B) Full duplex support for WIN/OS2 sessions (if the OS/2 driver supports it)
C) Make this faster interface avaible in native OS/2 to programmers via a DLL.
D) Maybe MIDI in for WIN/OS2 sessions.
Happy XMAS and New Year

John Gow (
P.S. I (Roderick Klein) don't deserve much credit! John Gow did the hard part, programming the driver!
I run the website, beta testing and the website. So most credit is for
John Gow, a virtual big hand for him. Besides this much help has come from Richard Gerant and Joe Nord.
