## Sad OS/2 News ##
Some of you may already be aware of this but as of January 31, 2001, IBM is going to be ending its defect support on OS/2 Warp 4. In its place OS/2 users have two paths:
- Purchase the OS/2 Convenience Pack
- Purchase eComStation (Stardock?s recommended upgrade path for existing OS/2 users).
You can find out more about eComStation at:
http://www.indelible-blue.com/software/ecs.cfm
and http://www.touchvoicecorp.com/eComStation.html
However, both of these products target the corporate user. That doesn?t mean end users can?t use it, it?s just that now it?s clear that OS/2?s presence in the consumer market is officially ending as regular users will not be able to purchase OS/2 anymore at a store. Moreover, supporting OS/2 software has become increasingly expensive since the number of people who are familiar with OS/2 decreases and thus training a new person to support OS/2 software is very time consuming. And since the OS/2 market is no longer expanding, we?ve reached the point where we?ve pretty much sold all the OS/2 software we?re likely going to sell barring making new versions or creating new software. As a result, effective January 31, 2001, Stardock will be discontinuing its OS/2 software. We are not eliminating our free technical support (our news groups and email) but free phone support will be phased out.
Stardock has enjoyed being part of the OS/2 community for all these years. Most of our OS/2 customers have migrated to other platforms, the majority of them are still with us now on Windows. But we feel we cannot continue to sell our OS/2 software when we aren?t able to provide the same level of support that we?re able to provide to our Windows users.
We will be continuing to sell our OS/2 software up until January 31, and those products can be found at: http://www.stardock.com/products/os2warp.html
For those of you who still use OS/2 and have no plans to migrate, we wish you the best. OS/2 is still a terrific operating system featuring great technology.
