The Netdrive Samba plugin has been updated to 1.5 beta (based upon Samba
Version 3.0.34 library code) on the Netlabs.org FTP server.
http://us3.samba.org/samba/ Samba is a free implementation of the
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Server_Message_Block CIFS/SMB protocol for
Unix, which allows LAN-Server style file and printer sharing among machines
running Windows, Mac OS X ,Unix or eComStation (OS/2). There is a netlabs
http://www.netlabs.org/en/site/index.xml based effort to port the Samba
server and create Samba clients for file sharing and printing for eCS
(OS/2) in order to replace the functionality of the outdated
IBM-LAN-Requester/Peer/Server components.
The version 1.5 beta plugin has various improvements over the final 1.0
plugin released earlier:
- It is much faster.
- It is more stable than 1.0 plugin.
- It requires less shared memory (therefore improving overall system
stability).
- All current development efforts go into the 1.5 version.
It is strongly recommended to use the 1.5 beta version of the plugin and
not the 1.0 plugin anymore. Numerous problems and bugs that were already
fixed in the 1.5 beta version are still present in the 1.0 version plugin.
