A new build of RexxMail is available from my web site:

True to the tradition established with previous major releases of RexxMail, the build I posted yesterday contained a glitch in the installation program that rendered it inoperative. I thought of blaming one of the cats (useful creatures at times like this), but it looks like it must have been me resting my elbow on the Enter key for a moment while taking a phone call or something, which is not the smartest thing to do if you're running a last-minute code check prior to release. My apologies to those of you who took the trouble to download yesterday's release.

Best regards,

Marcus de Geus

RexxMail is an object-oriented WPS e-mail client, written in REXX, and based on the standard OS/2 (eCS) WPS user interface. It features an extensive range of functions and options with full command-line access.

It's been quite a while since the last public release of RexxMail (well over a year, in fact). The reason for the long delay is that I have been recoding and reshaping the program, as well as adding lots of new functionality. The message redirection functions have undergone a major overhaul and now permit filtering on any combination of header and body content, and can call any external program as well as move messages to any location. In addition, the documentation (Reference Guide and Tutorial) has been expanded considerably.

The list of changes and additions is too long to reproduce here, but be aware that this is a major rebuild, so if you are using a previous release of RexxMail, please take the time to read the documentation, and the update instructions in particular, very carefully.

If you are not a RexxMail user, and if you are looking for software that will let you create and send personalized messages, with different file attachments, from a script or command line, you have just found it. If you want a program to collect mail for different users, and depending on the contents of the incoming messages, automatically run different programs and drop messages or attachments in different folders anywhere on your system, look no further. RexxMail will even set the icons of different types of mail messages to your specification so you can see at a glance whether anything requires your immediate attention. In addition, it lets you keep track of the program's actions through a full set of error, action, and mail logging functions, each of which can be independently controlled (from the command line if you like). Oh, and if you just want to send and read mail, RexxMail lets you do that too.

Best regards,

Marcus de Geus
