I'm pleased to announce the release of RUN! v0.60 Download it from:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=run_060.zip
or
http://e-vertise.com/misc/run_060.zip
RUN! can eliminate scripts and config.sys entries needed to start many programs - particularly those started as 'helper-apps' by other programs.
It sets the current drive, directory, and BeginLibPath to the directory containing the .exe, sets options, starts the program, then terminates.
For example, to start Firefox from ProNews/2 without a script:
- copy run!.exe to Firefox's directory
- rename it firefox!.exe
- update ProNews/2 to start (e.g.) D:NetAppsFirefoxfirefox!.exe
Options such as turning on LibpathStrict or using your 2nd codepage can be specified by embedding the appropriate character in the exe's name, e.g.
firefox!L2.exe. For a concise listing of all its options, just run the unrenamed run!.exe.
New and Improved in v0.60
-------------------------
- Environment feature: you can add, delete, or modify a program's environment using the 'E' option. Create a file with the SET statements you need and name it '[exename]!.env'. You can even set Begin/EndLibpath from this file. (Note: this is _not_ needed for the exe's directory - RUN! always adds this automatically.)
- Codepage support: you can now specify whether the programs should use your primary or secondary codepage. If your system provides bidirectional language support, you can enable that as well.
- Error messages: RUN! now displays a message for all errors that prevent a program from starting. There are new options to report non-fatal errors and to turn off all error messages & beeps.
- Other changes: v0.50 caused a VIO window to appear momentarily while it was starting, and caused some PM programs (e.g. Firefox) to open as full-screen text-mode apps. Both of these annoyances have been fixed. See run!v060.txt for additional info.
