Hi Ivan,
As others have said there are some of us that appreciate the work you do for us and the fact that you let us know your progress.
In my case I hope your work will give sound to my various AMD Ryzen based computer builds that have the Realtek ALC 892 7.1 channel audio as well as HDMI audio since nothing available works at the moment.
I'd be interested to see the results of trying to boot with the 4.14.202 build I posted earlier with the Ryzen's - you won't get sound, but the kernel is reasonably up to date. If it doesn't boot, please send me a testlog report so I can see the PCI IDs and give you an indication of the required kernel version to get working sounds.
Status update on 4.14.202:
I fixed the hang at boot by making sure I was using consistent kernel code/headers for regmap/regcache/rbtree - I'd previously shoplifted bits of code from different kernel versions as I'd needed different functions - not a good idea.
For my rewards, I got a trap in krealloc() which I fixed, now another trap setting up jack controls that I'm still investigating. I still hope that once this issue is resolved, the mixer controls will work and we'll be good to go, but there's no guarantee that hasn't been other changes that break things.
Thanks to all who posted in here - I'll keep posting updates as meaningful things happen.
Cheers,
Paul
PS that Sigil build is so long ago, I don't even remember what Sigil is/does
